Audition Prep Classes
Any dancer looking to audition for 2024/2025 Competitive Companies (including Crew) is encouraged to attend our Audition Prep classes held at Chara on Tuesday, May 14th. Select the prep class appropriate for you based on your CURRENT Jazz level. Detailed audition information by company is listed below. Chara Performance Company
Dancers who are looking for community, love to perform, and are interested in additional instruction are the perfect candidates for Performance Company. Dancers do NOT need to audition to join Performance Company. Dancers are placed in a Performance Company based on their grade for the upcoming school year. Each performing group works to push their skills during weekly classes in which they learn choreography that they perform throughout the community during the season. Dancers must be enrolled in one other class at Chara to qualify.
Season 19 Rehearsals
K – 1st Performance Company Friday 4:00 – 4:45pm
2nd – 3rd Performance Company Friday 5:00 – 5:45pm
4th – 5th Performance Company Friday 6:00 – 6:45pm
6th – 8th Performance Company Tuesday 7:15 – 8:00pm
Students must be enrolled in one other class class at Chara in addition to their weekly 45 minute Performance Company rehearsal.
NO AUDITION IS REQUIRED to join Performance Company! Simply enroll online prior to July 19th 2024.
The Performance Company Summer Intensive will be held July 22nd – 26th
Competitive Company
Chara has a strong competitive company presence; bringing home awards at regional competitions and helping students push their limits as they work to grow in their artistry. Dancers try out in the spring and if accepted, are placed on one of our Competitive Companies. As a team they will attend dance conventions, showcasing original choreography skills and technical excellence beyond what is learned in recreational curriculum. Competitive Company consists of dancers who are eager to advance in their dance training, and are often looking towards future ambitions involving dance, whether it be in high school or beyond. Dancers ages 5+ are welcome to audition in May for the following season.

Petite Competitive Company Tuesday 4:15 – 6:00pm
Apprentice Competitive Company Tuesday 4:00 – 6:00pm
Junior Competitive Company Tuesday 7:00 – 9:00pm
Teen Competitive Company Tuesday 7:00 – 9:00pm
Senior Competitive Company Tuesday 7:15 – 9:15pm
To audition, dancers must be ages 5+ Dancers would be most successful if they have completed a jazz and ballet class at Chara, If you are selected, you must be enrolled in company jazz, company contemporary, AND
- 1 day of ballet and 1 day of acro
- 2 days of ballet
- 2 days of ballet and acro
Dancers under 7, must be enrolled in ballet, jazz, acro, contemporary (or alternative 4th class) in Season 19.
Auditions will be held May 10th and 18th at Chara Christian Dance Academy.
Dancers trying out for Competitive Company will learn audition choreography on Friday, May 10th at the following times.
- 4:30 – 5:30pm – Tiny Tots Jazz/Primary Jazz
- 4:30 – 5:30pm – Currently enrolled in Jazz I/II
- 4:30 – 5:30pm – Currently enrolled in Jazz III/IV
- 5:30 – 6:30pm – Currently enrolled in Jazz V/VI
The following weekend dancers will formally audition skills and audition choreography on Saturday, May 18th at the times listed below (by current Jazz level). A round of cuts will be made and those that make it to the second round will learn new choreography and audition a second time on that day. Audition results will be released by EOD Wednesday, May 22nd.

Chara Crew
Chara Crew is a company that appeals to our intermediate to advanced level Hip Hop dancers looking for additional training, stage time, and community! Crew competes regional dance competitions throughout the season in addition to select community performances. Dancers Auditioning for Crew must be enrolled in Hip Hop III or IV at Chara. More information about Chara Crew and other company opportunities will be shared in our Company Parent Meeting.
Season 19 Rehearsals
Chara Crew Rehearsal Thursday 7:45 – 9:00pm
Chara Crew Select Thursday 9:00 – 9:30pm
Students must be enrolled in Hip Hop III+ or if not currently in Hip Hop, they must compete a skill evaluation and deemed leveled into level III+. Crew dancers will take their Hip Hop class in addition to their weekly rehearsal.
Auditions will be held May 14th & 21st at Chara Christian Dance Academy.
Chara Crew hopefuls will come to Crew’s regular rehearsal time Tuesday, May 14th 7:15 – 9:15pm to learn audition choreography. The following Tuesday, May 21st 7:15 – 9:15pm dancers will formally audition. Audition results will be released by EOD Wednesday, May 22nd.
The Competitive Company Intensive will be held June 24th – 29th AND July 22nd – 27th at Chara Christian Dance Academy
Friendswood Contemporary Ballet
Friendswood Contemporary Ballet is a semi-professional ballet company, striving to unite local ballet dancers and heighten exposure to the performing arts through quality performances and community engagement. The company has a cast of resident artists and strives to maintain technical and artistic distinction by supplementing performances with local guest artists. The resident artists are local dance students who have distinguished themselves in the field of ballet. Through the experience that is fostered in Friendswood Contemporary Ballet, these students have been given a one-of-a-kind opportunity to dance among professionals in order to heighten their training experience. Dancers must be enrolled in Ballet IV+ to audition.

Season 19 Rehearsals
Friendswood Contemporary Ballet Friday 4:30 – 7:30pm
Students must be enrolled in a ballet (level IV at Chara or equivalent at another studio) and company contemporary class in addition to attending their weekly rehearsal.
Auditions will be held May 17th from 4:30 – 8:30pm at Chara Christian Dance Academy. The audition will be a ballet class with a section where dancers will learn and perform a variation component en pointe. Dancers who have completed the exam to be in Pointe Il or Pre-Professional Pointe will be asked to complete to variation component on pointe. Afterward, there will be a contemporary classwork portion. Audition results will be released by EOD Wednesday, May 22nd. Audition results will be released by EOD Wednesday, May 22nd.
