Chara Performance Company

Dancers who are looking for community, love to perform, and are interested in additional instruction are the perfect candidates for Performance Company. Dancers do NOT need to audition to join Performance Company.  Dancers are placed in a Performance Company based on their grade for the upcoming school year. Each performing group works to push their skills during weekly classes in which they learn choreography that they perform throughout the community during the season. Dancers must be enrolled in one other class at Chara to qualify.

K – 1st Performance Company    Wednesday 4:00 – 4:45pm

2nd – 3rd Performance Company    Friday 6:15 – 7:00pm

4th – 5th Performance Company    Wednesday 4:45 – 5:30pm

6th – 8th Performance Company    Friday 6:45 – 7:30pm

Students must be enrolled in one other class in addition to their weekly 45 minute Performance Company rehearsal.

NO AUDITION IS REQUIRED to join Performance Company! Simply enroll online prior to July 23rd

The Performance Company Summer Intensive will be held July 24th – 28th

Competitive Company

Chara has a strong competitive company presence; bringing home awards at regional competitions and helping students push their limits as they work to grow in their artistry.  Dancers try out in the spring and if accepted, are placed on one of our Competitive Companies. As a team they will attend dance conventions, showcasing original choreography skills and technical excellence beyond what is learned in recreational curriculum. Competitive Company consists of dancers who are eager to advance in their dance training, and are often looking towards future ambitions involving dance, whether it be in high school or beyond.

Competitive Company A    Tuesday 4:00 – 5:15pm

Competitive Company B    Tuesday 4:15 – 6:15pm

Competitive Company C    Tuesday 5:15 – 7:15pm

Competitive Company D    Friday 4:15 – 6:15pm

Competitive Company F    Friday 4:30 – 6:30pm

Students must be enrolled in a ballet, jazz, and contemporary/modern class (or alternative 3rd class for dancers under 7) in addition to attending their weekly rehearsal.

Auditions will be held May 19th & 20th at Chara Christian Dance Academy.

On Friday, dancers will execute skills and choreography needed for auditions. Saturday, dancers will return to perform their choreography in front of judges including industry professionals and Chara Company Directors. Cuts will be made and those that make it to the second round will learn new choreography and audition a second time. Results will be shared within 3-5 days.

The Competitive Company Intensive will be held June 26th – 30th and July 17th – 21st at Chara Christian Dance Academy

Chara Crew

Chara Crew is a company that appeals to our intermediate to advanced level Hip Hop dancers looking for additional training, stage time, and community! Crew competes regional dance competitions throughout the season in addition to select community performances. More information about Chara Crew and other company opportunities will be shared in our Company Parent Meeting.

Chara Crew    Friday 4:30 – 6:30pm

Students must be enrolled in Hip Hop III+ (or equivalent at another studio) in addition to attending their weekly rehearsal.

Friendswood Contemporary Ballet

Friendswood Contemporary Ballet is a semi-professional ballet company, striving to unite local ballet dancers and heighten exposure to the performing arts through quality performances and community engagement.  The company has a cast of resident artists and strives to maintain technical and artistic distinction by supplementing performances with local guest artists.  The resident artists are local dance students who have distinguished themselves in the field of ballet.  Through the experience that is fostered in Friendswood Contemporary Ballet, these students have been given a one-of-a-kind opportunity to dance among professionals in order to heighten their training experience.

Artists in Residence Rehearsals 

Thursday 5:00 – 6:30pm and Saturday 9:30 – 11:00am

Students must be enrolled in a ballet (level IV at Chara or equivalent at another studio) and contemporary or modern class in addition to attending their rehearsals twice per week.

Auditions will be held May 27th at Chara Christian Dance Academy.

The audition will be an open-style ballet barre, center, and across-the-floor with a variation component. Dancers who have completed the exam to be in Pointe Il or Pre-Professional Pointe will be asked to complete to variation component on pointe. Afterward, there will be a contemporary classwork portion and an improvisation section.
